When you adopt a greyhound, you are giving a loving home to an incredibly deserving animal. Many adoptable greyhounds are retired racing dogs transitioning to pet life. By bringing a greyhound into your home, you gain a loyal, gentle companion who will happily spend the day curled up by your side.
What to Expect After Adoption
The transition from a racing kennel to a modern home can be a huge cultural shift for a retired greyhound. Everything from stairs and sliding glass doors to mirrors and televisions may be entirely new to them.
Patience is key. Your newly adopted greyhound will need a few weeks to decompress and learn the rules of living in a house. You will need to slowly introduce them to glass doors (to prevent them from walking into them) and teach them how to confidently navigate stairs.

Most greyhound rescue organizations have a thorough process to ensure that the dog and the family are a perfect match:
- Application: Fill out a detailed questionnaire about your home, family, and lifestyle.
